1Host Internship ProgramDuring the reporting period, our stations hosted four college students and two high school students as interns in our weather and news departments. Our department heads oversee the internship program. The internship program offers meaningful educational and work experiences designed to meet the academic and career goals of the intern.
2Participate in Job FairOn April 24, 2008, the SEU participated in the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Career Fair in Wichita. The SEU’s General Sales Manager, News Director, Promotion Director and Human Resource Administrator participated in the event and provided attendees with information on the SEU's employment vacancies as well as information about career opportunities in the broadcast industry.
3Participate in Event Sponsored by Educational Institution Relating to Career Opportunities in Broadcasting

Throughout the reporting period, various SEU personnel gave presentations to students at area schools:

  • February 2008 - the SEU’s Assistant Chief Meteorologist spoke to students at St. Joe Oust School, Wichita, about careers in TV weather forecasting.
  • February 2008 - the SEU’s Assistant Chief Meteorologist spoke to students at Linwood Elementary School, Wichita, about careers in TV weather forecasting.
  • August 2008 - the SEU’s Chief Meteorologist spoke to students at Wichita State University about careers in TV weather forecasting.
  • October 2008 - one of the SEU’s News Anchors spoke to students in the Wichita State University Council of University Women about careers in broadcast journalism.
  • November 2008 - the SEU’s Assistant Chief Meteorologist spoke to students at Pray Woodman Elementary, Maize, Kansas, about careers in TV weather forecasting.
  • November 2008 - one of the SEU’s News Anchors spoke to students at Butler County Community College in Wichita about careers in broadcast journalism.

Throughout the reporting period, our Chief Meteorologist visited area schools that host the SEU’s Mobile Weather Lab and gave presentations to students on weather forecasting as a career.

During the reporting period, the SEU’s promotions staff gave station tours and spoke about careers in broadcasting to groups from various local educational institutions.

6 Participate in Event Sponsored by Educational Institutions Relating to Career Opportunities in Broadcasting In November 2008, the SEU provided an area student with the opportunity to shadow SEU personnel in order to learn about careers in weather forecasting and television broadcasting.
7 Participate in Event Sponsored by Organizations Representing Community Groups Interested in Broadcast Employment Issues
  • April and June 2008 - the SEU’s Assistant Chief Meteorologist gave presentations at Exploration Place in Wichita, Kansas, about careers in broadcasting and weather forecasting.
  • March 2008 - one of the SEU’s News Anchors gave a presentation at Arc Ladies Group in Wichita, Kansas, about careers in broadcasting and journalism.
  • April 2008 - the SEU’s Chief Meteorologist gave a presentation to the Wichita Young Professionals about severe weather forecasting and careers in broadcasting.
  • April 2008 - the SEU’s Chief Meteorologist gave a presentation to the McPherson, Kansas Kiwanis on severe weather forecasting and careers in broadcasting.
  • May 2008 - one of the SEU’s News Anchors gave a presentation about careers in broadcasting and journalism at an event in Wichita, sponsored by Catholic Advance Newspaper.
8 Establish Training Program to Enable Station Personnel to Acquire Skills for Higher Level Positions During the reporting period, our stations offered training to two junior meteorologists employees in the area of weather system forecasting, to enhance the qualifications of these employees for promotion opportunities. Specifically, the stations provided training on the Weather Source Zoom System, National Severe Weather Workshop & National Weather Association.
9 Establish Training Program to Enable Station Personnel to Acquire Skills for Higher Level PositionsDuring the reporting period, our stations offered training to five junior account executives on the Wide Orbit Sales and Traffic System for order entry, data logs and cross training, to enhance the qualifications of these employees for promotion opportunities.
