From there, he transitioned to television, becoming a weekend weather forecaster and news reporter for KXMC-TV in Minot.
In 2006, JD became Weather Director for KMOT, the NBC affiliate in Minot. While there, he helped to rebuild the station's weather department. JD was awarded "Best Weatherperson in the State" by the North Dakota Broadcasters Association in 2007. Additionally, he has received three Eric Sevareid awards for weather forecasting.
In late 2007, KSN offered the Salina native a chance to return home. He says it's quite the honor to now work here, after growing up and watching KSN as a kid.
