A Salina native, JD Rudd is back home in Kansas as our 10 p.m. weekday meteorologist. He joined KSN in January 2008 and spent three years as KSN's weekend evening meteorologist. He has been awarded the TV Seal of Approval by the American Meteorological Society. JD earned a Certificate in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University, and is a member of both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. JD also holds a B.A. in Broadcasting from Minot State University in Minot, ND.

JD's first storm season back in Kansas was a very busy one, and he rose to the occasion. He and other KSN staff members were honored by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters for Best Morning and Noon News, covering the Chapman, KS, tornado.

JD graduated Salina Central in 2001. While attending college in North Dakota, JD worked for KIZZ-FM. In 2004, he was awarded "Best Radio Show" by the North Dakota Association of Broadcasters. From there, he transitioned to television, becoming a weekend weather forecaster and news reporter for KXMC-TV in Minot.

In 2006, JD became weather director for KMOT, the NBC affiliate in Minot. While there, he helped to rebuild the station's weather department. JD was awarded "Best Weatherperson in the State" by the North Dakota Broadcasters Association in 2007. Additionally, he has received three Eric Sevareid awards for weather forecasting.

Since coming to Kansas and KSN, JD says he’s honored to work in his home state, especially since he was a KSN viewer as a kid in Salina.

Feel free to say hello to JD by emailing him.
