WHITEWATER, Wisconsin (NBC) -- An equipment malfunction is being blamed for a huge explosion and fire at a propane facility near Madison, Wisconsin.

The Friday blast shook the ground for miles.

The explosions happened after a hose filling a propane tanker truck came loose.

"The worker tried to reconnect the hose to the containers and was unsuccessful, realized the severity of the situation and left the area...shortly thereafter we had an explosion due to the escaping propane," explained Captain Jude Maurer of the Rock County Sheriff's Department.

The worker's truck exploded, triggering another explosion that destroyed the holding tank.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
