GARDEN CITY, Kansas (AP) - Some employees of the Finney County Sheriff's Office are gambling on new jobs at the Boot Hill Casino in Dodge City.

A patrol deputy and two deputies from the street gang unit have left the sheriff's office for new jobs at the casino, which is expected to open later this year.

Sheriff Kevin Bascue says he will freeze some of the open positions because of an expected tight budget in 2011.

Bascue says the three employees wanted to work for the state and do security, and were expecting to get pay increases.

The defections mean for now only one deputy is currently working on the street gang unit. Bascue says he'll move a deputy from the patrol unit to the street gang unit in the next couple of months.
