SALINA, Kansas – A candidate vying for Jerry Moran’s seat in Congress has found himself in the middle of a federal lawsuit. It’s filed by the former director of Salina’s Housing Authority who alleges sexual misconduct.

In the middle of his campaign for Congress, Alan Jilka is facing allegations that he had a hand in firing Ann Rollins-Johnson, because she refused the former mayor's sexual advances.

"I'm stunned by the malicious nature of the accusations,” Jilka said Thursday. “My relationship with the lady in question was entirely professional at all times."

Jilka held a news conference Thursday morning to respond to the federal lawsuit filed against him, the City of Salina and Rollins-Johnson’s former place of employment, the Salina Housing Authority.

"Ms. Rollins-Johnson was dismissed by the board on
January 17, 2008,” Jilka said. “I was not part of the deliberations or the vote on her termination."

Five housing authority board members, who were selected by the Salina City Commission, which Jilka was a member of, are also included in the lawsuit. But Jilka claims the board had a number of reasons to fire Rollins-Johnson.

"A company to which she had recommended they award a $1.4 million contract, was owned at least partially by her new stepson,” Jilka said.

Jilka called the timing of the lawsuit "very curious" and added that he doesn't plan to drop out of the race for Kansas' first district.
