BROOKVILLE, Kansas -- Several school buses were vandalized in the Ell Saline School District.
On Monday morning, workers discovered that seven of the district's 14 buses were found with slashed tires, grease thrown on windshields, and heating cords unplugged.
"Extremely frustrating. It's not that anyone took anything of value in the process that we can see, it's just senseless," said Jerry Minneman, USD 307 Superintendent.
It made a mess for the district, shuffling buses and even having to rely on school suburbans to pick up some kids.
According to a tire repair shop, the average cost to replace one tire is $400.
There were more than 15 tires punctured with the total cost to repair all of the tires well in the thousands.
"Its very bad in my eyes because that's a school. They are having issues with budget cuts; this and that and to have someone slice up the tires on a bus," said Lt. Stan Fruits, Saline County Sheriff's Office.
An expensive fix and a time consuming one as well.
"It'll be a few days until we can get them fixed because the size of those tires aren't readily available."
Superintendent Jerry Minneman says they'll work with law enforcement to make sure they track down those responsible.
"This is just pure vandalism and nothing good comes out of this."
