WICHITA, Kansas – Some people treat their pets as children and one Wichita man has made that his business.

From the outside you’d think that you were looking at a high-end hunting lodge. The brand new, 3,000 square foot, energy-efficient building is actually a pet resort – a place to bring Rover when you’re on the road.

"We have nine luxury suites,” said Mark Wasserman, owner of Chisholm Creek Pet Resort. “They're all themed out. Various themes, K-State, KU, Wichita State, beach room, lighthouse room."

The building was a huge investment. Mark financed it through a combination of his own savings and got a bank loan for about 50 percent.

Kennel boarding generally costs about $20 a day, but the luxury suites are more than twice that.

"These luxury suites start at $45 a day and what we call the ultimate luxury package includes day camp and the Web cam access is at $57 a day,” Mark said. “When I look at building a new building, I run the numbers and I figure my revenue stream mostly from the holidays, and the summer, that's when you're gonna be a  nearly 100 percent capacity. This will take 10 years to get it paid out.”

Luxury cat suites are also available although they don’t have the snazzy themed rooms. Wasserman still offers access to their dog park. Members pay an annual fee to let their pooches run free and play in doggie paradise.
