CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (NBC) -- Students can't help but make at least one healthy choice at this elementary school in Charlotte, North Carolina where workers hand out 100% whole wheat buns and kids gobble them up.
Now the rest of the country is about to get schooled in nutrition.
First Lady Michelle Obama and the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced higher nutrition standards for the nation's school lunches, the first major overhaul of the school lunch system in 15 years.
Starting with next school year, lunch lines will provide more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Salt will be drastically limited, a process that will be phased in over the next decade to help kids' taste buds make the transition.
Many schools across the country are already doing extra credit, surpassing current nutrition guidelines.
