KU Basketball Player Arrested, Suspended from Team
By Jim Kobbe, KSN Sports

Kansas junior guard Brady Morningstar has been suspended from the team following an early morning arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Kansas Turnpike spokeswoman Lisa Callahan said Morningstar was stopped early Saturday on the Kansas Turnpike near the East Lawrence interchange.

He was arrested around 3:25 a.m. and booked into the Douglas County Jail.

Online jail records show he was released on $250 bond at 6:01 a.m.

Coach Bill Self announced that Morningstar, a returning starter from last year’s team, will be suspended during the first semester.

“Regardless of the details that concern the reason for him being stopped,” Self said in a statement, “(Morningstar) broke team rules that have been much more stringent since last week. Brady was in serious violation of curfew.”

“Because of that and his extremely poor judgment last night, I have decided to suspend him for the first semester from all competition and travel. Brady will remain a member of our team and will participate in all other team functions. We will support him through this, but needless to say I am very disappointed in the sequence of events that took place last night."

The arrest is the latest embarrassment for the Jayhawks, who are expected to be ranked as high as No. 1 in the preseason poll. It comes as university police open an investigation into last week's brawl involving members of the school's football and men's basketball teams.
