EL DORADO -- Zach Mettenberger, who led Butler to a national runner-up finish, will attend Louisiana State University, various newspaper and internet sites reported on Monday.
Mettenberger originally attended the University of Georgia, but was dismissed following a guilty plea in a misdemeanor sexual battery case.
Last week, Mettenberger told KSN Sports he had narrowed his choices to LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama. He had visited LSU and Texas A&M, but had yet to visit Alabama.
Mettenberger told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that he actually committed to LSU after his visit on November 20, but did not want it revealed publicly until Butler's season concluded.
The top-ranked Grizzlies lost to #2 Navarro, Texas 13-12 Sunday in the NJCAA championship game in Pittsburg, Kansas. Mettenberger threw for 2,678 yards and 32 touchdowns this season at Butler.
USA Today reports that Mettenberger will join LSU for practices in mid-December if his enrollment for the winter semester is cleared. As a student with an arrest record, his application will be reviewed by a faculty/staff committee.
LSU will play Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl January 7. Mettenberger would be a sophomore at LSU next season and have three years to play three seasons.
