WICHITA, KS--This morning, INTRUST Bank Arena & Russ Potts Productions, Inc. (Winchester, VA) announced Wichita State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) men’s basketball teams will play at Wichita’s INTRUST Bank Arena this November.
The event will take place November 25, 2011 and will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2007.
“This game should be another great matchup for our basketball team. We have increased our schedule strength over the past couple of years and this game is another indication of our dedication to this practice.” said Gregg Marshall, head coach of Wichita State. “It gives us the opportunity to play post-season tournament competition and will continue to prepare us for the Missouri Valley Conference.”
INTRUST Bank Arena, which opened in January 2010, has played host to one men's college basketball game — Tulsa vs. Wichita State this past December — and was the home for the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds in March.
"This opportunity presented by Russ Potts Productions is another example of how INTRUST Bank Arena can be utilized for a fantastic athletic event for the community, as well as bringing quality competition into the area that will strengthen our men’s basketball schedule.” said Eric Sexton, Director of Athletics at Wichita State. “UAB brings with it instant credibility in the national basketball community and has advanced to post season play each of the last two seasons, including the NCAA tournament just last year.”
Ticket prices for the game at INTRUST Bank Arena are yet to be determined by RPPI. Wichita State University men’s basketball season ticket holders will have first purchase priority through a presale. A purchase code will be sent at a later date to season ticket holders based on donation and priority point levels. Tickets will go on sale to the general public in September.
