When choosing a heating system for your home, there are several options to consider. Central heating systems are designed to heat a whole house or apartment. They are more expensive to buy and install than a window unit, but they provide a more uniform temperature. Zoned heating is a second option. Zoned heating simply means that each room, or group of rooms, has an individual element, but each area in which you place the system is a separate thermostatically-controlled unit placed either in the baseboards or the ceiling. As far as maintenance is concerned, heating units should be inspected and serviced by a professional at least once a year. Basic service should include cleaning or replacing the filters and oiling moving parts and motors. More specific maintenance services will depend largely on the type of furnace in the home and whether it is a steam, hot water, forced warm air, or electrical heating system. For more specific information, contact your local heating services professional.
