Monitoring refers to the connection of your system to a remote central station. When your system's alarm is triggered, a signal is sent to the central station, where an operator will call the police, fire department, and anyone else you choose. When you sign on with a company, you can designate who's called for certain triggers. It's a good idea to use a 'code word' so that your company can be assured you're the one responding to or corresponding about any occurrence. Signals can be sent to the company in different ways. For home use, a regular telephone line is usually used to transmit the signals. If you use a telephone connection, it's a good idea to get a line monitor to note if anyone cuts the line. Monitoring is essential for silent panic or medical monitoring. Not all areas or companies are equipped to handle all types of systems, so call around to find out what's available.
