BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) — Oschner Medical Center in New Orleans will take over management of the Hancock County hospital in Bay St. Louis in a few weeks.
The board of supervisors voted this past week to change management companies at the county-owned Hancock Medical Center. Quorum Health Resources has operated for several years.
Board President Lisa Cowand says the county will still own the hospital.
HMC Interim Director Craig Cudworth told supervisors last month that the hospital generated $33.8 million in gross revenue last year. HMC performed 2,248 outpatient surgeries and admitted 285 surgical patients, he said.
Despite the numbers, HMC has struggled financially with uncompensated care, decreases in state and federal Medicaid/Medicare funding; a depressed economy; the looming potential effects of the Affordable Care Act; and construction costs.
