DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Nurses Association says it has filed an unfair labor practice complaint involving nurses at a psychiatric hospital in suburban Chicago.
The union said Monday that Maryville Academy Behavioral Health Hospital in Des Plaines hasn't negotiated with the nurses on mandatory bargaining issues since talks began earlier this year.
Alice Johnson of the nurses group says management has "refused to bargain about staffing." She says nurses believe inadequate staffing contributes to what they see as unsafe working conditions.
The group filed the unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board earlier this month.
John Gorman is a spokesman for Maryville Academy. He says the safety of staff is important to management and the bargaining team has met with the union 10 times.
