ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas -- A woman has been arrested in connection with an Arkansas City boy's death.
Davin Manly, 2, died last October after ingesting a poisonous chemical. Now, his babysitter will face involuntary manslaughter charges.
The woman was arrested Friday night at a drug and alcohol treatment facility in Winfield.
Police say she was babysitting the child back in October when he ingested rust remover and later died.
Experts say rust remover includes hydrofluoric acid, which is dangerous to drink.
"Chemicals that kids get into can cause an array of problems, from a minor problem from an ingestion to a major life threatening event and it depends on the specific chemical the child gets into," said Krista Miller, Assistant Nurse Manager at Wesley Medical Center.
If your child has ingested a poisonous chemical, you should call 911, but if you feel it's non-life-threatening, call poison control.
"They have information on thousands and thousands and thousands of different chemicals, and they can tell you what the dangers are with the ingested substance. They can tell you toxic levels with that substance and they can tell you next steps that you need to take whether you stay home or go to the hospital to be monitored or treated," said Miller.
KSN is not naming the woman arrested in connection with the toddler's death because she has not yet been charged.
She bonded out of jail today and is expected to appear in court later this month.
