SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kansas – Sedgwick County commissioners approved Wednesday to offer a settlement in a lawsuit with the family of a mentally ill man who was beaten by a deputy in the Sedgwick County Jail.

Edgar Richard received those injuries back in February 2008. He was in the hospital for weeks before being released.

Richard recently died of stomach cancer.

The deputy, Manuel Diaz Jr., was sentenced to 18 months probation for the crime.

What heros the law enforcement officer is huh? There are some heros out there and there are some criminals infiltrating. There are officers who break in to peoples houses and then shoot them to death for defending themselves, in America? Yes this happens in America and far too often as if even one time wouldn't be too often. Sometimes they even kill these peoples pets??? What was the dog not cooperating either? Is that the justifiable cause for killing their pets as well? They must not speak dog very well. Heros these people are not. Heros go after child molesters and murderers and they catch them and they do whatever it takes to keep them away.

The dude caused the problems by not cooperating. He knew what he was doing was wrong. What a crock of BS

WOW!! That is terrible that our law officers did something like that. Now they want to offer money. That can not bring this man back. I hope they can offer alot of money to that family and with that they can undo what our law officers did to this man.
