GREAT BEND, Kansas – The Great Bend community is searching for answers in the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl a day after a body was found. Officials have yet to confirm if the body is that of Alicia Debolt.
The discovery was made late Tuesday evening just outside of Great Bend. Investigators found the body while searching for Alicia, who hasn’t been seen since this past weekend.
Authorities are now waiting on an autopsy report on the body found outside of Great Bend Tuesday evening. KSN is told the body was found in a rural area – possibly and open field. Authorities aren’t giving any indication as to the identity of the body, whether it was a male or female, how it was found or what condition the body was found in.
Authorities say Alicia was picked up by a 19-year-old friend Saturday night at her home around 11 o’clock. They were then supposed to pick up another friend at a gas station and head to a party. But they never picked up their friend or got to the party. When she didn’t show up for her midnight curfew, her mom got worried and started calling and texting her. Alicia did not respond.
The body found was sent to Wichita for an autopsy. Results are expected sometime today.
Alicia was supposed to start school as a freshman on Monday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” said Tom Vernon, superintendent of Great Bends Schools. “This is an extremely difficult time for them and the family and her friends.”
Authorities are not saying much about the young man who supposedly picked up Alicia. They have not identified him or said if he’s been located. They do say they do not have any suspects in custody.
