WICHITA, Kansas (KSN) -- A 33-year-old Wichita-area man died when he crashed into a power poll at North High School following a chase from police.

Officers were called out to a domestic violence call near Harry and Rock Road shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday.  Investigators say police witnessed the suspect fleeing from the scene.

"The vehicle was traveling at a high-rate of speed," said Capt. Hassan Ramzah.  Ramzah said police were investigating reports the domestic violence disturbance involved a gun.

According to Ramzah, officers called off the chase near 21st and Broadway because of dangerous speeds.  Investigators say the suspect turned onto Arkansas and then crashed into a power poll in front of North High School.

The 33-year-old man was declared dead at a local hospital a short time later.

Police have not released the man's identity.

This is a very sad situation. However, I would like to add a note to the writer of this story. What I think you meant to say is that the suspect hit a power pole. The story says that the suspect hit a power poll. Errors like this coming from reputable news sources are very distracting.
