WICHITA, Kansas – Who wouldn’t help a pregnant woman? Police say those who did were duped by an expectant mother who allegedly used her pregnancy to walk into homes.

Twenty-six-year-old Nicole Bell was charged in court Friday. Among the things she’s accused of stealing are prescription drugs.

The alleged victims that spoke with KSN said she used her obvious eight-month pregnancy as a way to gain sympathy and literal foot in the door. But once inside, the victims claim she made off with prescription drugs and cash.

“Oh, my,” said Darlene Cusick, one of the alleged victims. “She had such a baby face on her. I believed everything she told me.”

Cusick says Bell came to her house, claiming to have car trouble and wanted to use the bathroom.

“I told her to go straight in the house,” Cusick said. “I didn't go in with her. She was in there for a while, but you know I just trusted her.”

Cusick claims Bell rummaged through her cabinets and took her prescription narcotic lortabs.

Bell is accused in Sedgwick County of theft from multiple homes.

“Once you let them into your residence you're pretty vulnerable,” said Goddard Police Chief Sam Houston.

Houston says the woman had the same MO at different homes, going door to door saying she needed to use the phone or had car trouble and wanted to just step inside for a time.

Police say they got multiple calls and identified the woman and made the arrest.

Cusick says she’s learned a lesson and won’t be letting strangers inside again – even if they look trustworthy.

“She can't keep hurting older people,” she said. “You know, we trust yet, and so, I feel real bad for her with the baby.”

She’s been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and theft in Sedgwick County.

Goddard police say she will face additional charges in their city.
