WICHITA, Kansas -- Investigators say two young men may be responsible for up to three dozen burglaries across the city.
Ten businesses were hit overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.
Now police want you to get a good look at the two men. They're asking for the public's help in catching them.
Surveillance video from inside the Sugar Sisters bakery shows the two burglars quickly and easily stealing exaclty what they wanted.
"They obviously knew what they were doing,” said Sugar Sisters Manager Jason Azzone. “They took the cash register drawer, in about 30 seconds and they were out the back."
The east Central bakery was one of ten businesses hit overnight in what police investigators are now calling a burglary spree that includes 12 burglaries over the weekend in the west part of town, and another dozen last month all with the same M.O.
“The front window was smashed and someone went in to take cash from a cash drawer or actually take the cash drawer or cash register," says Lt. Barry Von Fang.
At Sugar Sisters the first thing the burglars did was break the front door. Then they headed around to the other door and broke that one too. The total damages were almost $500.
"We have to pay for it ourself out of pocket," said Azzone.
"Most of the cash registers don't have that much money. Most businesses know from past experience that they just leave a small amount of change. So they're breaking a $200 window to get $7 in change," said Von Fange.
So police are asking for the public's help in catching the burglars and have released these surveillance pictures from last weekend's break-ins.
Anyone who recognizes these men believed to be in their late teens or early 20's, should call police.
Investigators say the help of citizens can make a big difference and they hope in this case it will help stop a buglary spree that's claiming more victims by the day.
If anyone recognizes the men, they are asked to call the Wichita Police Department's burglary section at 268-4141 or Crime Stoppers 267-2111.
