HARPER COUNTY, Kansas – Two men working on an oil rig in Harper County were injured Thursday after the rig exploded.

It happened just south of Bluff City at around 9 a.m.

Authorities say the men were repairing the rig after it was knocked over in a storm earlier this month. One suffered minor burns to his face and is being treated in Anthony. The other suffered serious burns to his arm. He was flown by helicopter to Via-Christi St. Francis in
Wichita.

“One of the victims said they were using a cutting torch,” said Deputy Marion Williams with the Harper County Sheriff’s Department. “We’re investigating why it exploded at this time.”

Authorities say neither of the workers’ injuries are life threatening.
