WICHITA, Kansas -- From new Mac computers to new flat screen televisions to microphones: all were stolen.
Pastor Marty Freeman of Believers Tabernacle says his church was a mess when the crime was discovered on Tuesday morning.
His first reaction was shock. "It's a sad thing when people would break into a church. I realize people are desperate. You just never know, is it something that was done with a malicious heart or desperate need," Pastor Freeman said.
Freeman says there isn't much that's for certain at this point, but they do know that whoever committed the crime may have been familiar with the property.
"The only reason is it looks to us they knew exactly which rooms the expensive equipment was in, cause the other empty classrooms that had nothing of value, they didn't even try to get into those. They knew exactly what rooms to go after," Freeman said.
Pastor Freeman is working with police, hoping to recover at least some of the up to $20,000 worth of stolen electronics. He says he'll also implement the teachings of the church by forgiving those who've wronged them.
"Jesus teaches us if someone strikes one cheek you give them the other, so it won't deter the calling and the mission we have to accomplish in our neighborhood," said Freeman.
