WICHITA, Kansas -- The winter storm has come to an end for most of Western and Northcentral Kansas, however, portions on Southcentral and Southeast Kansas will continue to be plagued with gusty winds and heavy snow through Sunday afternoon.

Metro Wichita has seen about 3 inches of snow as of Saturday evening, while just to the East, locales such as Howard, Elk and Sedan have already seen 6-8" with more on the way tonight. The snow will continue to fall in these areas (and East to the state line) through the end of Sunday. Some portions of this area may see as much as 10" of snow when the storm finally moves out Sunday night.

Aiding in the headache with this system has been the gusty winds, blowing anywhere from 20 to 40 miles per hour. This will continue to reduce visibilities as well as cause areas of blowing and drifting snow; some drifts may reach 3-5 feet in height. Motorists are urged to keep a very close eye on the updated weather forecasts and be aware of changing conditions with this storm.

One other concern is the slick spots on some roadways across central Kansas tonight. Keep in mind that due to the warm ground, some snow may have melted this afternoon. This will then refreeze tonight, making for additional slick spots. Use caution on side streets, bridges and even sidewalks.

Warmer conditions do look to return to parts of the area by Sunday afternoon and then a general clearing for all of Kansas on Monday.
