ORLANDO, Florida, May 9, 2008 (NBC) -- A Florida mother has given her son the ultimate Mother's Day gift.

12-year-old Joseph Torres is feeling better than ever thanks to his mother's kidney.

Joseph suffers from a rare auto-immune disease that ravished his kidneys.

His mother Brenda says she was thrilled to be able to give her son a second chance at a healthy life.

"He'll remember this year, and still has a ways to go, but he'll be fine.  He'll be fine, I have no doubts," she said.

Joseph says he's already feeling the difference in a big way.

"I'm not tired more energized and not in pain anymore," he said. "I'm not skin and bones anymore, or bags under my eyes and I'm not swollen."

Joseph's doctors say that while he's doing well, the fight isn't over.

They'll monitor him closely for the next few years to make sure that the kidney is functioning properly.
