Student body revolts against administrators

By Jessica Oakley

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, May 9, 2008 (NBC) -- An act of vandalism caught on tape lead to a student revolt at one Tennessee high school earlier this week.

It all began when a pair of boys broke into the school, spray-painted messages on the floors and walls, stashed bags of fish in the ceiling and ransacked several rooms.

In an attempt to find the culprits, school administrators took the entire student body into the gym for questioning while the gym was cleaned up.

After an hour and a half in the crowded gym, the students grew unruly and charged the doors.

Cell phone cameras captured the near-riot, and the images quickly ended up on YouTube.

The timing of the charge was coordinated through text messages.

School officials say they're disappointed in the string of events, but admit things could have been handled differently.

Police say they're confident that the vandals will be apprehended.
