WICHITA, Kansas, Apr. 1, 2008 -- In today's world, many people would say they can't live without a computer but that doesn't mean we can all understand them. Thanks to a Wichita man named Bill, we won't have to.
When your computer is working, it is a blessing. When its not, you want to curse. The 'curse' part is what keeps the Bill Guy in business.
"We have this perfect realization that most people don't know how these things work. When they call up, they're frantic. They don't know what happened, they're very anxious, and so we give them peace of mind," said Bill Ramsey, owner, Bill Guy Tech Solutions.
After working as an information tech guy for other companies, Bill Ramsey set out on his own. He began as an hourly consultant, and after seven years has seen recent unusual growth. He attributes it to exemplary personal service.
"We had a 200% revenue growth last year and a 400% profitability growth. We have spread by word of mouth. I mean, we hired six people last year."
The Bill Guy is primarily a consulting company, maintaining and consulting on small business IT issues. He also has an inventory of used computers for sale -- for example, how about a gently-used laptop for $250?
Bill and his team work primarily with small businesses. They charge on an hourly basis or on a monthly contract where they will maintain a company's network. New equipment allows him to fix many problems remotely.
His explosive growth hasn't changed the way he handles clients.
"I have to make sure that all my clients have that same personal touch that I've always tried to make sure that they have -- even without being there."
He realizes that you may have problems with your computers at home too, so for $90 an hour a technician will get your computer back up and running, and take the curse out of your day.
