Cooperative Education & Work-Based Learning

By Kevin White

Wichita State University's Cooperative Education & Work-Based Learning Program partners with nearly 500 organizations like yours to fill positions with qualified WSU student employees. As one of the largest cooperative education and internship programs in Kansas, we can assist you in meeting your hiring needs.

A partnership with WSU's Office of Cooperative Education & Work-Based Learning Program benefits your organization by:

  • Connecting with a highly motivated, skilled workforce for both short and long-term needs
  • Effectively filling positions with qualified individuals
  • Working with experienced WSU coordinators who recruit students, arrange interviews, conduct evaluations and help resolve work-related problems
  • Reducing turnover by evaluating Co-op students and interns as potential employees and hiring them as graduates already familiar with the industry
  • Participating in the education and training of today's students and tomorrow's employees

For the student employee, participation in the Co-op Program means gaining valuable "hands-on" experience related to their major, earning academic credit and having a powerful advantage when they graduate.

The main differences between a cooperative education position and an internship is that all cooperative education positions are paid and last more than one semester. Both programs apply students' classroom learning to real-world situations while the students earn academic credit.
