WICHITA, Kansas -- A gas station on the city's northeast side is the latest target in a rash of recent gas thefts.
Police say the thief took off with several hundred dollars worth of gasoline.
Business went on as usual at the D&T gas station in the 800 block of S. Woodlawn Thursday morning.
Just 24 hours after the owner discovered 150 gallons of gasoline stolen.
Sources tell KSN News the owner was going through the station's inventory when he realized numbers weren't matching up.
Police are looking to find out how many people were involved in the theft.
"It appears what they did was use a set of bolt cutters to breech a gas tank and in doing so they were able to get about 150 gallons of gasoline from that tank," said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police Department.
Police believe this crime didn't just happen overnight.
"Based on the time the owners knew the gas was there or not," said Lt. Nolte. "We believed it occurred over a two day period."
Investigators are still working to find the person responsible for this theft.
Gas thefts appear to be more evident as gas prices continue to climb.
