WICHITA, Kansas -- Wichita Police say they're searching for the driver of a car following a hit and run accident that left a man dead.
Family and friends of the victim say they're still trying to wrap their minds over what happened.
Family members confirmed to KSN News the victim was Lloyd Ferguson, 50 but many knew him as Sonny.
"I'm in shock you know? Sonny was so full of life," said Pebbles Whittaker, victim's ex-wife. "I just keep hearing people say Sonny is gone. It hasn't really registered."
Pebbles Whittaker is at lost for words just 24 hours after learning that her ex-husband Sonny was killed.
"He had a big heart. He would do anything for anybody," said Whittaker. "He was always smiling. His life was family, cars, horses, and kids."
The accident happened at East 21st Street North near Piatt around 11:00 p.m. Friday night.
Police say a man was riding his horse with a 4-year-old boy when they were hit by a car.
The driver of that car took off.
Two good samaritans rushed to help the victims, but then they were all hit by a second car.
Sonny was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two good samaritans and the little boy were transported to a local hospital and the horse had to be put down.
"One thing you know? There's no street lights down here so it's awfully dark, said family friend. "One wonders what he was doing at that time of night on the horse, but if its well lit maybe they would have been seen or maybe it would have been prevented."
Family believe that in situations like this everything is in God's hand.
"Maybe they would have seen him sooner and had a chance to swerve out of the way or something situations like this," said family friend. "You have to say that everything is in God's hands so maybe it's God's plan that he was hit."
