DERBY, Kansas -- The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department is looking for a thief who forced open the overhead garage door of a residence in the 5500 South Northview Trail in Derby.
It happened Saturday between 2:30 and 8:30 a.m while the homeowners were asleep.
The suspect forced open the overhead garage door.
"What we believe happened is that they reached up and removed the catch on the electric garage door opener. Once you remove that, you can open the garage door and make entry," said Lt. David Mattingly, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department.
The suspect took Craftsman tools, Dewalt power tools, a chainsaw, knives, pots and pans, a Cannon Mark II camera, a Sony camcorder, a Taylor Guitar, an IPod, an IPAD and a computer all inside the garage.
The loss is estimated at $11,779.
