ST. CLOUD, Florida (WESH) - A mother was arrested in St. Cloud, Florida after heating up water and throwing it on her child, police said.
Yadiza Morales, 32, and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Roberto Lopez, face child abuse charges.
According to police, the mother heated the water in the microwave.
"Her mother had microwaved water to boiling point and the mother and the boyfriend both poured hot water on her as she was standing in the shower," Sgt. Denise Roberts said.
The 6-year-old child suffered third-degree and second-degree burns and was taken to a hospital.
Investigators said this is the second time in a week the 6-year-old had been punished with hot water.
"It's not what it seems. You will find out," Lopez said. "I was not inside the bathroom. That's all I am going to say."
Morales worked at a St. Cloud day care, the Shepherd's Little Family Child Care Center. She was let go from the job.
"I am completely stunned," day care owner Virginia Anderson said.
Police said both the mother and boyfriend admitted to abusing the girl.
