ARKANSAS
CITY , Ks, April 14, 2008 -- Dozens of people in
Arkansas
City woke up this weekend to find themselves the victims of vandals.
Steffany Cox was awoken early Sunday morning by police telling her that she and many of her neighbors had their tires slashed.
"I came out and looked at my car and there was people standing along their side walks and stuff, just devastated,” she said.
Police say there were a total of 39 victims, the vandals doing an estimated 7600 dollars worth of damage.
“It's very discouraging, very disheartening,” said Police Chief Sean Wallace. “These people deserve justice, deserve their money back."
Tires were slashed for a three bock wide and 16 block long area through town.
The Chief says right now they don't have any suspects but are working all leads. Because of the nature of the crime, he believes young people are probably to blame.
"The best thing for someone who's done this is to come forward now before we continue to rack up man hours that could go towards restitution,” he said. “It's just getting worse as each day goes by."
For Stephanie, the crime leaves her and her husband with just one vehicle.
"I have to pick my husband up from work and it's really rough for us right now, until payday."
The vandals deflating not only their tires, but their pocketbooks too.
If you know anything about the crime, you're asked to call the Arkansas City Police Department at 620-441-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 620-442-7777.
