Severe storms march across parts of Kansas Monday night

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Strong winds, hail and heavy rain pounded parts of south central and northwestern Kansas Monday night. Damage was reported near Arkansas City in Cowley County around 6:45 p.m.

Cowley County Emergency Management Assistant Director John Stradal reported three power poles were knocked down by high winds about 2 miles northwest of Arkansas City. They were along 41st Rd, about 2 miles west of US Highway 77.

In Scott County, Emergency Management Director Tim Stoecklein reports baseball-size hail broke out windows eight miles east-northeast of Scott City. Hail also caused window damage in Pence.

Numerous KSN viewers sent in photos of what appear to be funnel clouds near Arkansas City. However, the National Weather Service has not yet confirmed any of the sightings were tornadoes.  

The National Weather Service reported 2-inch-size hail in Sharon Springs in Wallace County. Three-inch-size hail also was reported in nearby Weskan shortly after 7 p.m.

None of the areas hit by the severe weather reported any injuries.
