WICHITA, Kansas -- A teenage girl suffered serious injuries after her friend accidentally backed over her in south Wichita on Sunday, Wichita Fire officials said.
The 17-year-old girl was reportedly lying on the driveway of a home in the 1100 block of South Terrace just before 5:30 p.m.
She was listening to headphones and couldn't hear her friend backing out of the driveway, and was run over.
A firefighter on the scene said the girl's friend stopped as soon as she realized what had happened, but that the girl had become pinned under the vehicle.
The jaws of life were used to extract the girl and she was rushed to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition.
The incident is under investigation.
