WICHITA, Kansas, Dec. 5, 2007 - Wichita's resident movie star, Kirstie Alley is at it again, getting into the holiday spirit with a display that people say will be "over the top."
Saturday is your chance to get an inside look at her Santa Land, Hollywood style.
Santa Land is taking shape at 3725 E. Douglas in Wichita. Her friends say it's her way of fitting into the neighborhood that's long been big on holiday decorations.
Of course, Kirstie's version has Hollywood written all over it.
The backdrop was made by Russian artists for a scene in Kirstie's movie "Look Who's Talking Too" with John Travolta.
"It's unbelievable the amount of work that went into it, and it's in Wichita now," Robin Vanhuss, Kirstie's friend, said. "It's been in L.A., in Maine. It's been seen by hundreds of thousands of people. Now, it's here for us to take advantage of with our families."
Work crews have been preparing the area for a carpet of snow. No, Kirstie can't guarantee it'll snow in her hometown, but she'll guarantee there will be snow. It's being flown in from Australia.
"It's called designer snow," Robin said. "It's the same snow they used in the movie "Happy Feet" that was made by this company in Australia. They have donated this fake snow. It's non-toxic. It's biodegradable. Let's not get into that. It's all biodegradable and they are flying it in for opening of Santa's Village."
While anyone who drives by will enjoy the finished display for free, a benefit Saturday night, is your ticket inside.
For $15, you'll be able to bring your camera, take tons of pictures with Santa and Kirstie and, for awhile at least, enjoy Santa Land exactly as it appears in the movies.
Along with photo opportunities, hot chocolate and cookies, the gospel choir "Voices of the Dream" will perform Saturday at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m.
The one night only benefit for the Scientology church will have a limited number of tickets, so buying them in advance is your best bet.
