Christmas card sent in 1914 gets to Post Office - 93 years later

By Ryan Newton

OBERLIN, Kansas, Dec. 14, 2007 (AP) - A Christmas card mailed in 1914 has finally made it to northwest Kansas - 93 years later.

The card is in excellent condition and features a color drawing of Santa Claus and a young girl.

Oberlin Postmaster Steve Schultz says it's a mystery where it spent most of the last century.

The card was addressed to Ethel Martin of Oberlin, who is deceased.

The post office tracked down Ethel's sister-in-law, Bernice Martin.

Martin said she thinks the card from Ethel's cousins in Alma, Nebraska, had been found somewhere in Illinois.

The card was placed inside another envelope with modern postage for the trip to Oberlin.
