Officers fire on chase suspects' car

By Rachel Sommerfeld

WICHITA -- Two people were taken into custody after a police chase, in which officers shot at the suspect's car.

It all happened in the area of Seneca and McCormick, in southwest Wichita, about 10:30 Thursday night, when officers tried to pull over the car for a traffic violation. The driver sped off hitting a police vehicle. That's when two officers shot at the suspect's car hitting it twice. The suspects were *not hit.

Officers took two people into custody -- including the passenger who became combative, was tasered, and taken to the hospital to be checked out.

"Sometimes when tasers are used against somebody, you will fall, because it will lock up your muscles it is common to have them evaluated if they complain of injury," said Lt. Joe Schroeder, Wichita Police Department.

Because of the heavy rain officers took the vehicle into custody to process the evidence in a garage.
