Topeka shooting leaves one woman dead

By Jessica Oakley

TOPEKA, Kansas, May 16, 2008 (AP) - A man who fled in a four-door car is being sought in the shooting death of a woman outside Topeka motel.

Police said officers were called Thursday night to the Regency Inn on the city's south side, where they found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds near the motel office. The woman was taken to a Topeka hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as 50-year-old Pamela McMaster of Topeka.

Police said Friday they are looking for a skinny black man in his early 20s, after first saying the suspect was white. He was wearing a blue or gray hoodie and a bandanna. He fled in a newer, four-door sedan occupied by three other women.

The slaying is the city's fifth of the year.
