Letters a hoax by 14-year-old

By Jessica Oakley

WICHITA, Kansas, May 16, 2008 – Wichita police say a 14-year-old boy is the author of two letters that claimed responsibility for the shooting of an officer in March. The letters also threatened more violence against police.

The Wichita Police Department got a call from an apartment complex at 8406 E. Harry where another letter addressed to WPD was found.

The letter was found in the same area as the first earlier in the week. It contained threatening language against WPD officers and bullets that the author said he would use to shoot police.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested late Thursday afternoon at his east Wichita home in connection to the letters. He was taken to the Sedgwick County Juvenile Facility. Police are still deciding if he will face charges.

The boy is not actually the person who shot at the officer in March. He just thought it was funny and was acting out against his parents.
