Large tornado touches down in Chicago suburbs

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) June 7, 2008 - The National Weather Service says a large tornado  touched down in Chicago's southern suburbs Saturday evening.

The twister damaged homes, toppled power lines and overturned semitrailers.

State police say one person was injured on Interstate 57. A swath of the major highway is closed as authorities clear overturned trucks.

A tornado warning was also  issued for Chicago's northern suburbs.

Tornadoes earlier in Wisconsin injured at least five people.

And in Indiana, dams are near collapse and the Coast Guard has been moving people out of threatened homes after 10 inches of rain fell Saturday.

One state official says 90 percent of Paragon, southwest of Indianapolis, is underwater.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has declared an emergency in 10 counties.
