Police: road rage may have led to Wichita homicide

By Jessica Oakley

WICHITA, Kansas, July 1, 2008 – Wichita police say road rage appears to be behind a shooting late Monday night.

The victim is 17-year-old Iesha Donaby who was visiting family in Wichita for the summer.

Police say Donaby and her two cousins were headed home when a car pulled out in front of them. That car then stopped in the middle of the road. Police say Donaby’s cousin honked her horn and then proceeded to pass the stopped vehicle.

Soon after, Donaby and her family parked and were walking inside their home when the suspect got out of his car and fired several shots. Donaby’s family says two of those bullets hit her in the throat and side.

"She came in and said she had been hit in the throat then she collapsed,” said Donaby's aunt, Ida Staten said.”She collapsed on the floor of my bedroom."

Donaby was planning on heading home to Arkansas on Friday.

"Why?” asked Ida. “She was only 17, about ready to be a senior getting ready to graduate, go off to college and start her life. Why did you have to end her life like that?”

“She was very young, intelligent,” said Donaby’s aunt, Katherine Staten. “Had her whole life ahead of her, and then somebody just came along and stole it from her.”
