EL DORADO, Kansas, July 18, 2008 - The future of Barton Solvents had been uncertain since a massive explosion last year.
Now, Barton Solvents will call El Dorado home.
The future home of Barton Solvents is located on the north side of town.
Last summer, when the Valley Center plant went up in flames it was an El Dorado company that stepped in.
Employees from the Frontier refinery are trained in fighting petroleum-fueled fires and played a key role in putting out the blaze.
"It was their expertise and their firefighting abilities that made that as small a problem as it was," said El Dorado City Manager Herb Llewllyn. "It could have been worse had we not had those capabilities right here in El Dorado."
It’s forged a bond that officials hope makes Barton a good fit.
Barton Solvents was also attracted to El Dorado for its rail and interstate access at the industrial park.
"We're excited, " said Economic Development director David Alfaro. "Anytime we can bring a quality company such as Barton to Butler County and El Dorado, it's exciting."
The state of the art facility will add up to forty new jobs in an industry with roots in El Dorado.
"Oil has been a part of our history and hopefully it can continue to be apart of the future as well," said Alfaro.
The building details are still being worked on and a time table for construction in El Dorado has not yet been set.
The Valley Center facility will remain open and serve as a transfer station.
