Gillaspie goes from Missouri Valley to Major Leagues

SAN FRANCISCO California, September 06, 2008-Conor Gillaspie, who was drafted 37th overall this summer, was to join the San Francisco Giants Saturday. Gillaspie becomes the first player to play for Wichita State and a major league club in the same season.

Gillaspie hit only .268 with seven RBIs for Salem-Keizer (Class A).

Gillaspie hit .418 with 11 home runs and 82 RBIs as a junior this season for Wichita State.  He signed with San Francisco in August for a $975,000 bonus.
