Body of missing man found

By Jessica Oakley

MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kansas, October 9, 2008 – The search for missing Lindsborg man, Mike Likins Jr., is now over.

Likins disappeared September 12th in Saline County, but authorities suspected foul play after he went to a lake in neighboring McPherson County.

Likins’ family watched in agony Thursday as his body and vehicle were pulled from the McPherson fishing lake.

"It was the missing vehicle that we'd been looking for for several days and also it was the missing person we found inside the vehicle, Mike Likins,” said McPherson County Sheriff Larry Powell.

Authorities and family have spent nearly one month searching for Likins in four counties.

"We found him, we can get past that point now and we can grieve and we will let the police take care of whatever questions there are,” said Likins’ father, Mike Sr.

It wasn’t the first time authorities searched the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, but what lead to the discovery was a radar the Canton Fire Department used, which located exactly where Likins’ car was at the bottom of the lake.

Many questions still remain surrounding recent developments that Likins was in an altercation with two McPherson men the night of his disappearance from the state fishing lake.

"We've got tons of questions, the same ones we've had all along,” said Mike Sr. “He wouldn't just drive into the lake."

The family hopes the investigation will bring answers to a long, painful month without knowing.

“The family is tighter than it's ever been and we will take care of each other,” Mike Sr. said.
