Car chase leads to shots fired

RENO COUNTY, Kansas (KSN) -- Call it a convenient end to a high speed chase that began in Nickerson. The suspect stopped outside the Reno County Jail, before backing his car up toward officers, who opened fire on the vehicle.  No one was hurt, and the man was taken into custody and booked into jail on eight counts of aggravated assault and flee and elude of law enforcement officers.

It all started in Nickerson at 7:30am, when police tried to pull over a car with Wisconsin license plates. That's when officers say 24-year-old John  Oquenda, Jr. took off, driving toward Hutchinson.  According to a news release, the suspect proceeded down a ramp near the Reno County Law Enforcement Center, where officers surrounded the vehicle.  Once cornered the suspect put the car in reverse, driving back toward officers who opened fire.

The man was forcibly removed from the car, and booked into jail on charges of aggravated assault of an officer and fleeing and eluding police.
