WICHITA, Kansas – The family of a fast food worker fatally shot 30 years ago returned to Wichita to fight against the parole of one of the two women convicted of killing her during an armed robbery.
"Life should be life," said Kelley Malone, Julie Rosenhamer's youngest daughter. "I don't think people that kill people should get out of jail."
Malone was just three years old when Rosenhamer was fatally shot in the chest while closing up the Church's Fried Chicken at 13th and Broadway in May of 1983. Malone says witness have told her Rosenhamer was trying to cooperate with the armed robbers.
"It was senseless and uncalled for," said Malone.
Regina Baldwin and Yvonne Pink were both convicted and sentenced to life in 1983. Baldwin is up for parole now. Pink will be up for parole next year. It was Pink that pulled the trigger.
Malone said both should spend the rest of their lives in prison after shattering her family. Her father died in a car crash just months before her mother's murder. The four children were scattered and raised in three different homes. Malone says while she's close to her twin sister, she barely knows her other sister and brother.
She was accompanied to the parole hearing by Rosenhamer's sister and second husband.
"I don't know what my mother's voice sounded like, I don't know what her touch felt like, I have no memories of her face at all," said Malone.
Baldwin will have the chance to meet with the parole board in August. A decision on her parole will be made before the end of September.
While the House plans to vote on a short term extension to carry over till a permanent bill can be reached next session, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says that's not an option.
