GREENSBURG, Kansas -- One place in Kansas that really got into the Christmas spirit was Greensburg. That’s where nothing says Christmas quite like the Main Street Cafe and Candies.

Having dinner at the Main Street Cafe in Greensburg is a lot like going home for the holidays. That is, if every inch of home is decorated with lights, candy canes, and of course, singing Santa’s.

And that’s just the dining room. Upstairs, every room of the old hotel is also all decked out, each in a different theme. There’s an old fashioned Christmas, a camping Christmas, a Christmas wedding, a patriotic Christmas -- that one may explain why politicians love it.

"It’s a lot of fun. We have guests here from Newton. It’s a fun place to bring our guests and just provides a fun place for the community," said Dennis McKinney, state representative.

It’s all the doing of brother and sister Larry Rogers and Wanda Mott.

"We tell everybody, once you come here and you’ve been upstairs and when you come down, if you’re not in the Christmas spirit you don’t have a Christmas spirit," said Mott.

But getting here isn’t easy. Wanda says it takes a day to decorate each room upstairs, a week for each room down below and every year it’s different. That’s what keep people coming back for more.

"We love coming in and seeing everything new they come up with every year," said visitor Kim McMurry.

And they don’t just come back from around Kansas.

"We have a lot of people from Canada who come down to see this every year," said Mott. "We have people from New York. We had a lady from Las Vegas who came in here last week and ate lunch and was amazed at what she saw."

And that is saying something.

Those who live in Greensburg say the Christmas Spirit at the Main Street Cafe is contagious, inspiring other businesses to show their holiday spirit.
