Motorcycle crash leaves one man dead
WICHITA, Kansas -- A Wichita man has died after a fiery motorcycle wreck Wednesday despite two women’s efforts to save him. Police say the motorcyclist hit a truck that had pulled out right in front of him from the Wal-Mart parking lot on East Pawnee at Broadway. The bike caught fire almost immediately with a small explosion. That’s when strangers came to the biker’s rescue. "They was all backing away from him. We had to jump out of the car and try and get people to help us pull him away from it because they weren’t trying to help him. They was just going to leave him there next to the bike," said Amanda Vasquez. "We pulled him away from the bike. It was on fire. The flames were going all over him. We didn’t want to see him burn alive in front of our eyes. I couldn’t live with that." Medics rushed the 24-year-old to the hospital. He died late Wednesday night. The crash remains under investigation. Another motorcycle crash Wednesday morning injured two people. It happened on Mt. Vernon after the driver of a car didn’t see the motorcycle turning onto the street from Volutsia. The crash sent the bike’s female passenger flying over the car. She was hospitalized with critical head injuries. The bike’s driver was also hurt. Neither of them was wearing a helmet. |
