State budget officials make final revenue estimate

By Melissa Baier

TOPEKA, Kansas, April 17, 2007 (AP) – Budget officials say the state will take in about $13 million less than they previously estimated. Today's estimate covers the rest of this fiscal year, which ends June 30, and the following year.

Officials say the new estimate reflects changes the legislature made to increase school funding and cut taxes. They say the economy is healthy and continues to grow.

Lawmakers have approved a $12.3-billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year, but many budget issues are unresolved.

The unresolved issues include health care, disaster aid, special education, repairs at public universities, and others.

The Legislature returns next week for its wrap-up session.
